A Little Secret from the Past About Tomato

My mother always kept me away from store-bought skin care products. All I have learned about skin care routine is everything you need to keep your skin healthy is right in your kitchen. Then may that be a skin pack or even moisturizer for that matter. My mother always taught me to keep it simple and it will last for long. I guess she is right. Let me share a little secret for your weekly dose of Beauty Wednesdays.

Tomato is one fruit is a way too underrated (psst … it is not a veggie) just because most of out there have no clue what this miracle ingredient is capable of. So just for you to know it contains wonderful nutrients values such as carotenoids, folic acid, and vitamin C and when it comes to skin it has antioxidant which helps protect your skin from getting damaged. It also has some amazing anti-aging properties which help in fading away from fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. Vitamin C improves the collagen and gives supple and firmer skin if used regularly. Not just that, the pulp also contains antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Phew… if I go to tell you all the goodness this miracle fruit has my post would go way too long.

Give your skin a treat of goodness with these Tomato face packs:

  • For Acne: Use ½ a tomato, 1 tsp Jojoba oil and 3-4 drops of tea tree oil. Mix all the ingredients well and apply on your face. Let it sit for about 10 to 15 mins post which washes from Luke warm water followed by cold water. Repeat at least 2 to 3 times a week.

How this work: Jojoba oil is known for its hydrating properties which helps your skin stay well moist. Tea tree oil is anti-fungal which helps cure acne naturally and Tomato being rich in vitamin c it helps control the excess oil and helps fill up the pores.

  • For Dark circles: Just mix Aloe vera gel and tomato juice apply the mixture on the under eye area with the help of cotton pad or even directly is fine. Let it dry for 10 mins or so and then carefully clean it. You can apply this daily if needed. Caution:- Don’t let the mixture get into your eye.

How does this work: Tomato is also is skin lightening agent which helps in getting rid of my dark spots and aloe vera contains anti-inflammatory properties and helps in hydration. This mixture is also excellent for the signs of anti-aging.

  • For Open pores: 1 tbsp of Fuller’s earth (Multani mitti) and 2 tbsp of tomato juice. Mix both the ingredients and make a paste-like consistency. Apply to your skin and let it dry for 10 mins or until it dries. Rinse with warm water. Make sure you moisturize your skin well after pat drying your face. Apply this face pack once or twice a week.

How does this work: Fuller’s earth helps in deep cleaning the pores and tomato juice helps in tightening up the skin.

Our skin changes as we age. I am in my 30’s now and my skin is getting drier along with my age. In my early to late 20’s my skin used to be a way too oily and now my skin is very much playing with combination to dry skin. In all age, I have always been using tomato as my base for face pack. Just  for you to know, here are some.

For 3 different skin types

Oily Skin – ½ tomato and ¼ cucumber. Mix both the juices well apply. Wash after 15 to 20 mins. Use it twice a week.

Of course, I am not scared of aging but the sound of early signs of aging Just scares me. So I started researching online and have tried these face packs and trust me they are very very good.

Dry skin – a tomato and 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Mix the tomato juice with olive oil. Apply to your skin and leave it for at least 10 to 15 mins. Rinse with warm water. Can be used twice a week.

Combination skin: This is my absolute favorite. 1 Mashed avocado and 1 tomato pulp. Mix them both well, apply on your face & wash after 10 mins. I have been using this pack twice a week and has done wonders to my skin.

**Please make sure about your skin type. All the packs above are personally tested and have had no reaction on my skin.

Bonus tip : Mix tomato pulp with some oats to use as a body scrub. It is excellent all season, though you may smell like a tomato after some time but you a tone it down by mixing few drops of rose or lavender essential oil.
